DHIKUR POKHARI - The Dove pond

  • 3,180 meters

This place is named after a pond to the west of the lodge settlement which goes by the name Dhikur Pokhari. Dhikur or Dhukur is 'dove' in Nepali and Pokhari means 'pond'. This is also the first of many ponds in the Annapurna Circuit but certainly not the best of the lot. Dhikur Pokhari is basically a lodge settlement run by the people of Pisang. It is a very recent establishment created to cater to trekkers. From here you will get a nice panoramic view of Swargadwari, a huge rock formation replicating a huge slide. Slide over to the placecards section to know more about this rock formation. Dhikur Pokhari is also the start of the Nyeshyang region of Manang. Also, this is where the Himalayan Birch (Betula utilis) forest starts which mean there's a good chance you will see Musk Deer around. Keep your eyes wide open!

Also, let it be warned that if you wish to hire a porter it is only going to get more expensive from here on.
